2023 Election: Atiku Shuts the Door Against Wike, Picks Okowa as Running Mate.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Wednesday picked the Governor of Delta State, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate.

The Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, emerged as the favourite choice since the primary when he backed Atiku Abubakar for the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar announced Okowa as his choice in the presence of the National chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu and other members of the party in Abuja.

This development was disclosed by a former governor of Delta State and a former Senator while addressing the press today.

A former Senator from Kaduna State, Senator Shehu Sani while reacting described Okowa as a link between the South-East and South-South.

He further wrote; At the PDP Presidential primaries election, Governor Okowa played a vital role in the victory of Atiku. Whereas Wike who emerged second in the election has done so much to sustain the party, with his ruggedness seen as an asset for the party.

It has earlier been reported that PDP will screen nominees for the vice-president position today. Those shortlisted for screening are Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa; Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel.

Atiku Abubakar emerged as the PDP presidential candidate for 2023 with a vote of 371 on 28 May 2022.

He and his running mate will be battling with other presidential parties like Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress in the 2023 presidential election.

Among other presidential candidates are Rabiu Kwankwaso of New Nigeria Peoples Party, Malik Ado-Ibrahim of Young Progressives Party, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu of Zenith Labour Party, Dumebi Kachikwu of African Democratic Congress, Adewole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party and Omoyele Sowore of African Action Congress.
