Bola Tinubu, a presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 elections, said that Nigeria needs transformational leadership and big changes for the good of the people.
Tinubu said this when he and his campaign team went to see the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, in Benin City over the weekend. Tinubu has been governor of Lagos State twice.
The national leader of the APC said he was in Edo State to meet with delegates, but he had to stop by the palace first to ask the Oba for his blessing before the national convention at the end of May.
The former governor said that he is serious about running for president and that he is qualified to do so because of his past experiences at different institutions. He also promised that if he was elected, he would do the same good things for Nigeria that he did for Lagos State.
He talked about what he had done by saying, “When I took over Lagos, it was a bad slum. I’m happy that Lagos is a city statute today. When I took oLagosagos, the monthly revenue was N600 million. They now make more than N50 billion a year.
only want to be president, and I’m not kidding. Sir, the only reason I’m here today is to ask for your blessings and prayers so I can win the APC nomination and become president. I know how important it is to have your blessing and approval.
Tinubu said, “I’m in Benin to meet with delegates, but since you’re a father and have a long history, I’d like to pay you a courtesy call first.”
In his speech, the Oba said that the palace is not political, but it is always interested in who will change Nigeria’s economy and make people’s lives better.
We’ll say prayers for you. Oba Ewuare II said, “As traditional rulers, we also believe that Nigeria needs a good leader to deal with the changes.”
Adams Oshiomhole, who used to be the national chairman of the APC and was with the group, said that Tinubu is a trustworthy candidate and that Nigeria needs someone who can get things done.
