Seyi Olofinjana to lead Chelsea FC Africa Scouting Operations

English Premier League giants Chelsea have appointed former Super Eagles midfielder Seyi Olofinjana as their Head of Scouting Operations for Africa, according to Soccernet.ng.

Olofinjana, 44, enjoyed a distinguished playing career at both club and international levels. Starting with Nigerian sides Crown FC and Kwara United, he later played in Europe for clubs including IK Start, Brann, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Sheffield Wednesday, Cardiff City, Hull City, and Stoke City. Internationally, he earned 48 caps for Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

Since retiring in 2014, Olofinjana has remained active in football management. He served as an academy coach and loans pathway manager at Wolverhampton Wanderers before becoming Sporting Director at Swiss club Grasshoppers.

His appointment highlights Chelsea’s commitment to strengthening their scouting network across Africa, a continent rich with football talent. Notably, Olofinjana follows in the footsteps of fellow Nigerian Michael Emenalo, who served as Chelsea’s technical director from 2010 to 2019.

With a strong fanbase in Nigeria and across Africa, Chelsea’s move to appoint Olofinjana signals their intent to deepen their connection with the continent and discover emerging football talent.
