In August 2022, through Ways and Means Advances, the Federal Government borrowed N1.46 trillion from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
From N20.61 trillion in July 2022 to N22.07 trillion in August 2022, the total amount borrowed by FG from the CBN increased.
Data from the CBN show that between January and August, the federal government borrowed N4.61 trillion in total from the central bank.
According to the Debt Management Office, the Federal Government’s N22.07 trillion debt to the apex bank is separate from the nation’s total public debt stock, which was N42.84 trillion as of June 2022.
