Former Manchester United forward, Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly signed with Saudi Arabian team Al-Nassr for $75 million per year.
Ronaldo who signed a two-and-a-half-year agreement with Al Nassr will earn a total salary of about €200m per year which includes a commercial deal. This is the biggest salary ever in the history of football.
The deal, which was first reported by Saudi outlet Arriyadiyah and later confirmed by CBS Sports, marks the end of Ronaldo’s time as a free agent and the end of his career at the top level, as no other serious suitors from Europe or elsewhere emerged.
Al Nassr’s official statement reads:
“History in the making. This is a signing that will not only inspire our club to achieve even greater success but inspire our league, our nation and future generations, boys and girls to be the best version of themselves”.
Cristiano Ronaldo on his move said, “I’m thrilled for a new experience in a different league and a different country, the vision that Al Nassr has is very inspiring”.
“I’m very excited to join my teammates, and to help the team to achieve more success”.
The 37-year-old’s medical tests have reportedly been partially completed and will continue next week. In addition to his playing role, Ronaldo will also take on an ambassador role with Al-Nassr after his playing career ends in 2024.
The Portuguese will play alongside, Ospina, Aboubakar, Talisca, Luiz Gustavo, and Alvaro Gonzalez, under the leadership of Rudi Garcia.
