Former Newcastle midfielder, Christian Atsu’s body has been discovered 12 days after the disaster in Turkey and Syria, which has claimed more than 40,000 lives, according to a tweet from Nana Sechere.
According to a twitter post by Nana on Saturday, “It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce to all well-wishers that sadly Christian Atsu’s body was recovered this morning.”
“My deepest condolences go to his family and loved ones. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their prayers and support.
“I ask that whilst we make the necessary arrangements, that everyone would please respect the privacy of the family during this very difficult time.”
Atsu, a 31-year-old Ghanaian international, was a member of Hatayspor of the Turkish Super Lig.
He played for Newcastle for 121 games and was a member of the squad that earned re-promotion to the Premier League in 2017.
While still a Chelsea employee, Atsu also spent time on loan at Everton and Bournemouth.
