More than two weeks after two deadly earthquakes devastated Turkey and Syria, the body of Hatayspor’s sporting director Taner Savut was found on Tuesday. The calamity resulted in the deaths of about 47,000 individuals.
Savut had been missing since February 6th alongside Christian Atsu, a Ghanaian football player for the same team. However, Atsu was found dead last week. Reports also revealed that Savut’s body was recovered not far from the location where Atsu’s remains was found.
“We feel the deep sorrow of losing our Sporting Director Taner Savut. We will not forget you teacher Taner. Rest in heaven. You are always in our hearts,” wrote Turkish side Hatayspor on Twitter on Tuesday
A condolence statement was also sent in Savut’s honour by the Turkish Football Federation and the biggest Turkish teams, including Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.
