Elon Musk Unveils Twitter’s Upcoming Audio and Video Calls, Challenges WhatsApp’s Trustworthiness

In a major announcement, Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, revealed on Tuesday that users will soon be able to enjoy audio and video calls on the popular social media platform. Musk took to Twitter to share the news, promising that voice and video chat functionality would be available shortly, allowing users to connect with anyone on the platform without the need for sharing personal phone numbers.

Expressing his concerns about the trustworthiness of WhatsApp, which is operated by Meta, Musk stated in a follow-up tweet that the messaging service “cannot be trusted.” This announcement sets the stage for Twitter’s messaging function to face tough competition from various free alternatives like Messenger, Signal, Telegram, and WhatsApp.

Furthermore, in an effort to prioritize user privacy, Musk revealed that Twitter would start encrypting direct communications on the network beginning Wednesday. This encryption will scramble the contents of messages, ensuring enhanced privacy and protection for users.

Since his acquisition of Twitter for a staggering $44 billion last year, Musk has been known to make daring adjustments that occasionally create disruptions for users. Despite the occasional havoc caused, the CEO of Twitter has been vocal about his vision for a multifunctional program called “X” that integrates communication, payments, and other features.

Reflecting this vision, Musk recently incorporated his tech company under a shell corporation called “X,” distancing it from the Twitter company name while retaining the service’s familiar branding. This strategic move hints at the potential transformation that lies ahead for the platform under Musk’s leadership.

As Twitter gears up to introduce audio and video calls, it aims to expand its offerings and solidify its position as a comprehensive communication platform, while simultaneously challenging WhatsApp’s reputation in the market. Users can anticipate exciting developments as Twitter evolves to meet the changing demands of its global community.
