Victor Osimhen of Napoli has won the Serie A award for best striker for the current 2022–2023 Italian League season.
This was announced on Friday via the Twitter account of the Italian top flight division’s organiser.
Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan and Rafael Leao of AC Milan were rivals for the prize, but the Super Eagles striker prevailed.
Since the 1989–1990 season, Osimhen led Napoli to their first Serie A championship.
After won it in 1987 and 1990, this is the club’s third time in its existence.
The first African to win the Serie A’s top scorer award is about to happen thanks to Osimhen.
With only one game left, he presently has 25 goals, four more than his nearest competitor Martinez.
He has also surpassed George Weah’s record for the most goals scored by an African in Serie A by tallying 47 in the Italian top division.
Kim Min-Jae and Kvicha Kvaratskhelia, two of his Napoli teammates, as well as his coach, also received honours.
While Min-Jae of Napoli was chosen as the finest defender in Italy, Kvaratskhelia was voted the Serie A MVP for the 2022–23 campaign.
