The three-time African champions Nigeria and the Asian powerhouse Saudi Arabia will play an international friendly at the Estadio Municipal de Portimo on Friday of next week, and FIFA has named Portuguese official Luis Godinho as the match’s referee.
At the game, which begins at 5 p.m. Portugal time (the same time as in Nigeria), Godinho will be aided by fellow countrymen Bruno Jesus (assistant referee 1), Tiago Costa (assistant referee 2), and Miguel Noguera (fourth official).
Additionally appointed are Bruno Vieira and Helder Carvalho, who will work together to manage the situation in the VAR room.
The two nations have faced off twice before. At the Alpenstadion in Wattens, Austria, on May 25, 2010, the Super Eagles and the Green Falcons fought to a scoreless draw in a pre-2010 FIFA World Cup friendly match.
On Monday, October 16, 2023, at the same location, the Eagles will play another friendly match against the Mozambican Mambas. Kickoff is at 4 p.m.
