Morayo Afolabi-Brown ‘s roots in media are intertwined with a lineage of distinction, being the daughter of the late Nigeria Bar Association President, Alao Aka-Bashorun. Influenced by her mother as a backbone and inspired by the stories of powerful women like Abike Dabiri, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Ibukun Awosika, Oprah Winfrey, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Morayo has not only etched her narrative into the media’s fabric but has also embodied a blend of tenacity, strategic vision and tradition as she ascends the summit of her career with global perspectives.
From her early role as a Client Service Manager at CMC Connect to spearheading content development at CUE Media, Morayo left an indelible mark with concepts like the TV drama series “Girlfriends,” “Changing Lives” talk show, and “Shop Easy.” Her journey continued at HiTV, where she contributed significantly as Business Development Manager and later as Head of Content and Channels Acquisition.
Joining TVC as Deputy Director of Programmes, Morayo played a pivotal role in transforming the channel into a dynamic entertainment platform. Her strategic acumen positioned TVC among Nigeria’s top channels. In 2020, she was rightfully recognized among the 25 most powerful women in Nigerian journalism.
Morayo’s vision found its pinnacle in “Your View,” TVC’s breakfast show. Inspired by “The View,” she envisioned a Nigerian version that challenged the narrative of excluding women from national discussions. As a talk show host, Morayo navigates the delicate balance of expressing her views constructively while ensuring clarity as a moderator.
Beyond the screens, Morayo passionately advocates for women’s issues, a commitment reflected in starting “Your View” to give women a voice. Her advocacy extends to politics, where she calls for increased representation of women.
Morayo’s journey has seen challenges, criticism, and self-doubt. Yet, her resilience and commitment to purpose shine through. The gains — trust, exclusive circles, and the ability to effect positive change — outweigh the pains.
Morayo’s commitment to impactful projects is evident in her involvement in the EkoEXCEL project, an education reform initiative by the Lagos State Government. Looking forward, she envisions herself as an international influencer, a role model, and a social crusader, steadfast in her purpose and guided by divine inspiration.
Wearing many hats — TV host, managing director, advocate — Morayo navigates the delicate balance between career and family. Grounded in values, she prioritizes family love and attention, recognizing that nothing is worth sacrificing those relationships.
In the next decade, Morayo said she envisions international influence and continued dedication to her purpose. Regardless of the roles she takes on, her commitment to staying true to her values and making a lasting impact remains unwavering.
