The Nigerian government has announced a significant salary increase for civil servants and pensioners across various salary structures. The increase, which ranges from 25% to 35%, applies to the remaining six Consolidated Salary Structures.
These structures include the Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS), Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), Consolidated Para-military Salary Structure (CONPASS), Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS), and the Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICCS).
Earlier increases had been implemented for the Tertiary Education and Health Sectors, which saw raises in the Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS), Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONTISS), Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS), Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS), Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS), and Consolidated Health Sector Salary Structure (CONHESS).
Emmanuel Njoku, the Head of Press at the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission (NSIWC), confirmed that the salary increases are effective from January 1, 2024.
In addition to the salary increases, the government also approved raises of between 20% and 28% for pensioners on the Defined Benefits Scheme under the six consolidated salary structures, also effective from January 1, 2024.
These increases are part of the government’s efforts to improve the welfare of civil servants and pensioners, as well as to ease employment in critical sectors like health, by making the compensation packages more attractive.
