Can we get to know you?

Boye Dare: My name is Boye Dare. I’m Nigerian, born and raised in Ekiti State, located in the southwestern part of Nigeria. I completed my education from elementary to university in Nigeria and have been working in the IT industry for over 20 years now. I’ve worked with various organizations in both the private and public sectors. Socially, I’m interested in whiskey, and I co-founded the Nigerian Software Testing Qualification Board and the Eko Whiskey Club.

What inspired you to pursue a career in IT and to establish the Eko Whiskey Club?

Boye Dare: My career in IT was driven by a passion for technology and the impact it can have on society. As for the Eko Whiskey Club, the inspiration came during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. With limited socializing options, a group of friends and I began visiting each other’s homes and enjoying whiskey together. This sparked an interest in the art of whiskey collecting and investing. I realized that many whiskey enthusiasts in Nigeria lacked a proper understanding of whiskey, its production, and the different varieties available. Thus, I decided to establish a whiskey club in Lagos, the commercial hub of Nigeria, to educate and bring together whiskey lovers.

Why did you choose whiskey specifically, and what makes it special to you?

Boye Dare: Whiskey is a unique and complex drink. Unlike other spirits, it has a rich history and a sophisticated production process that fascinates me. It’s often considered a gentleman’s or gentlelady’s drink, appreciated for its depth and variety. The maturation process, the selection of grains, and the distillation methods all contribute to its distinct character. My passion for whiskey grew as I learned more about these aspects and began collecting and investing in it.

How do you plan to attract members to the Eko Whiskey Club, and who can join?

Boye Dare: The Eko Whiskey Club is open to everyone, though it primarily targets whiskey enthusiasts. We have structured membership levels: Silver, Gold, and Platinum, each offering different benefits. The club aims to educate members about whiskey, facilitate tastings, and organize trips to renowned distilleries worldwide. It’s not just about drinking whiskey; it’s about understanding and appreciating it.

Could you elaborate on the club’s structure and what it offers to its members?

Boye Dare: Certainly. The Eko Whiskey Club provides a comprehensive educational experience about whiskey, from grain selection to maturation and bottling. Members will have opportunities to travel to major whiskey-producing regions like Ireland, Scotland, and Japan for distillery tours. We also host regular whiskey tastings, featuring various whiskey styles and guided by experts. Additionally, we offer support for those interested in whiskey investment or establishing independent bottling companies in Nigeria.

Are there plans for collaborations with other whiskey clubs or societies?

Boye Dare: Yes, we are actively seeking partnerships with international whiskey societies, such as the Irish Whiskey Society and the Scottish Whiskey Association. These collaborations will allow us to host joint events, share knowledge, and provide our members with a broader whiskey experience. We’re also reaching out to major distilleries for potential sponsorships and collaborations.

Beyond the benefits for club members, what impact do you envision the Eko Whiskey Club having on the broader community?

Boye Dare: The Eko Whiskey Club has a strong commitment to corporate social responsibility. We plan to support local NGOs and community projects through various initiatives. For instance, we are considering hosting an African Whiskey Awards, with proceeds benefiting local communities. Our goal is to contribute positively to society while promoting a culture of whiskey appreciation.

Finally, what should prospective members look forward to, and when will the club officially launch?

Boye Dare: We recently had a mini-launch event in collaboration with Barrels.ng in Lagos. While we haven’t set an official launch date yet, we are open for membership enrollment. Interested individuals can join through our website, ekowhiskeyclub.com. The official launch will be planned with our initial members’ input, ensuring it meets the community’s expectations and interests.

Boye Dare’s story illuminates the captivating world of whiskey. From his distinguished career in IT to his passion for whiskey, Boye embodies the spirit of exploration and innovation. Through initiatives like the Nigerian Software Testing Qualification Board and the Eko Whiskey Club, he not only enriches his own life but also enriches the lives of others by fostering knowledge, appreciation, and community. As he charts a course to educate, inspire, and uplift, Boye Dare exemplifies how individuals can create meaningful intersections between diverse interests, leaving an indelible mark on society.
