24-year-old Nigerian gamer Oside Oluwole, popularly known as “Khoded,” has broken the world record for the longest videogame marathon playing a soccer game. Oside played the mobile game Dream League Soccer 2023 for an astonishing 75 hours nonstop, shattering the previous record of 50 hours set by Englishman David Whitefoot in 2022.

Oside’s record-breaking attempt was not just a personal achievement but also a charitable endeavor. A car dealer and qualified biochemist by profession, Oside used this event to raise funds for a local hospital in his hometown, Ijebu Ode. This act of philanthropy highlights his commitment to giving back to his community, demonstrating that his passion for gaming goes beyond personal gratification.

Unlike his predecessors who played console games like FIFA or Pro Evolution Soccer, Oside chose to play Dream League Soccer 2023 on his iPhone, which he connected to a television screen. Since downloading the free-to-play game in 2016, he has been an avid player, accumulating over 500 matches during his record attempt.

The rules allowed Oside five minutes of rest time for every hour of gameplay. These brief intervals were the only opportunities he had to sleep, use the restroom, or rest. Despite the grueling nature of the challenge, Oside found the experience enjoyable and fulfilling.

“I really enjoyed myself playing for 75 hours straight with just some hours of rest. It wasn’t an easy task, but I must say it was all fun. It was such a great moment; the event was very interesting and I’m grateful to God that it was successful,” Oside said.

His achievement has been met with widespread admiration and congratulations. Hon. Seun Adesanya, a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, praised Oside’s dedication and determination in a press release: “The Guinness World Records title is a testament to Mr. Oluwole’s dedication, determination, and the countless hours of practice he invested in mastering the game. His achievement stands as an inspiration to all aspiring gamers and an embodiment of the unyielding spirit of determination that drives our nation.”
