Prof. Epiphany Azinge, SAN, former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, was officially crowned as the 14th Asagba of Asaba on Saturday. His coronation followed his selection as the Asagba designate by the Asagba-In-Council and representatives of Asaba’s five quarters on August 18, 2024.

The ceremony, held at the Asagba palace in Delta State, was attended by dignitaries including former Governor Chief James Ibori, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, and federal lawmaker Mr. Ngozi Okolie. Azinge was crowned by Chief Ubaka Attoh, the Onihe of Asaba, after receiving the traditional staff of office and keys to the Ogwu-Uku.

In his acceptance speech, Azinge honored the late 13th Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Chike Edozien, and promised to lead with justice and fairness. “Their vote for me was a call to service,” he said, pledging to uphold the culture and traditions of the Asaba people while promoting unity and inclusivity.

Azinge also expressed his commitment to working with the government to bring development to Asaba, including pushing for the establishment of a federal university in the city.
