In a significant step to bolster air surveillance capabilities, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has acquired a Cessna Grand Caravan EX-208B. The aircraft, inspected by Comptroller-General of Customs, Mr. Bashir Adeniyi, in Bartlesville, USA, is set to enhance border security operations.
“This aircraft will be a game-changer for the Nigeria Customs Service’s air wing,” said Adeniyi. “Its ability to carry 10 officers, coupled with its six-hour aerial endurance, will significantly enhance our capacity for air surveillance and border patrol.”
The Cessna Grand Caravan, powered by the reliable PT6 Pratt and Whitney engine, is globally renowned for its rugged versatility and ability to operate on remote airstrips—ideal for Nigeria’s border security. Adeniyi noted that the aircraft is equipped with modern Garmin G1000 avionics, enabling operations in day, night, and low-visibility conditions.
“With this aircraft, we will strengthen our air border patrol capabilities, which will not only help us intercept illegal activities but also provide quick extraction support when necessary,” Adeniyi added.
Aircraft Operations Coordinator, Capt. Kuhi Mbaya, praised the acquisition, stating it will revitalise NCS’s air border patrol activities. “The Nigeria Customs Service is poised to secure our borders more effectively and improve revenue generation for the nation,” said Mbaya.
This move aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda and aims to tighten border security while combating smuggling activities.
