Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has left the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Abaribe, who was the Senate Minority Leader, also quit his job in the national assembly.
Remember that he dropped out of the PDP governorship primary on Wednesday, saying that the list of delegates was made up and that there wasn’t enough openness.
But in separate letters to the ward chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State and the President of the Senate in the National Assembly, Abaribe said he was leaving the party because of its illegality, impunity, and difficulty making decisions.
In a letter to the party ward chairman titled “Resignation of my membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)” Abaribe wrote: “I am writing to let you know that I am leaving the Peoples Democratic Party”
“This change happened because the party made a shameful decision based on illegality, impunity, and lack of democracy, and it happened after I talked to my constituents about it.
In a letter to the President of the Senate, Senator Lawan Ahmed, titled “Notification of Resignation from the Membership of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Senate,” Abaribe said, “This is to inform you and my dear colleagues in the Senate that I have formally resigned my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party through my ward. This also means I’m stepping down as the leader of the Senate’s minority party.”
“I’d like to thank you and my other close friends in the Senate Leadership for how friendly everyone was when I was Minority Leader.
