The Adamawa State Government has received 200,000 doses of cholera vaccine from UNICEF following an outbreak of the disease in four local government areas. This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Health and Human Services, Felix Tangwani, during a press briefing in Yola on Sunday.
Tangwani revealed that 30 out of 50 samples sent to the National Reference Laboratory tested positive for cholera, confirming the outbreak. He stated, “We now confirm that we have an outbreak of cholera in Adamawa.”
The outbreak has claimed 12 lives, and efforts are underway to control the spread. Tangwani assured that the state government, in collaboration with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, is taking rapid steps to contain the situation. He urged residents to remain calm and follow health guidelines, particularly regarding personal hygiene and water sources.
