Adenike Oladiji Becomes FUTA’s First Female Vice-Chancellor

Prof. (Mrs.) Adenike Temidayo Oladiji, a biochemist from the University of Ilorin, has been appointed as Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) 8th substantive Vice-Chancellor by the university’s governing council. The appointment was ratified by the Council at a Special Meeting held on Thursday, May 12, 2022, presided over by the Pro-Chancellor, Chairman of Council, Ambassador (Dr.) Godknows Igali.

Oladiji’s term begins May 24, 2022, and Ambassador (Dr.) Igali signed a letter of appointment stating that Oladiji will serve a single five-year term. She will succeed Prof. Joseph Fuwape, whose term ends on Monday, 23rd May,

Born in 1968, Oladiji holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Biochemistry from the University of Ilorin. Also, she holds a doctorate in Biochemistry from the same university, where she started her career as an Assistant Lecturer until rising through the appointment of a professor in 2011.

With almost three decades of scholarly service in the tertiary education system, Oladiji has served in different capacities on various university committees.

Among her other roles, she has served as the Director of the Center for Research and Development and In-House Training; Director of the Central Research Laboratory; Dean of the School of Basic Medical Sciences (Kwara State University); Dean of the School of Life Sciences; and a Member of the Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa and Crown Hill University in Eiyenkorin, Ilorin.

Oladiji, a prolific researcher, has won numerous awards and accolades including the University Merit Award, a certificate of merit, and several scholarships. As a member of the Nigerian Academy of Science and the Nigerian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, she holds several honorary memberships in the scientific community.

As a member of various scientific committees at the National Universities Commission, NUC, and the Tertiary Education Fund, TetFund, she has served as an external examiner in over 20 universities in Nigeria and abroad.

Among her professional affiliations are the West Africa Research and Innovation Management Association (WARIMA), the American Society of Nutrition, the Organization for Women in Science and Technology for the Developing World (OSWD), the Science Association of Nigeria, and the Nigerian Society for Experimental Biology (NESB).
