In the just-concluded quarterfinal match between Nigeria and Angola, the Super Eagles of Nigeria secured a 1-0 victory over the Black Antelopes of Angola, earning their qualification for the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The only winning goal for Nigeria was scored 41 minutes into the match by Ademola Lookman.
Close to the hour mark, Angola came close to equalising. Substitute Zine capitalised on Show’s throughball, defeating Nwabali with his first-time shot, only to be thwarted as the ball rebounded off the post.
Despite VAR disallowing Victor Osimhen’s header from Lookman’s free-kick due to offside, the Super Eagles successfully defended their lead and advanced to the semi-finals.
Ademola Lookman netted the sole goal, propelling Nigeria to victory over Angola and securing their spot in the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals. The Atalanta winger found the back of the net just before halftime in Abidjan, converting Moses Simon’s cross.
This win sets up a semi-final clash against either Cape Verde or South Africa. Angola, eager to reach their first semi-final, had a promising beginning but faced a setback in the fourth minute when Stanley Nwabali saved Mabululu’s close-range volley.
Finally, Angola is out in the quarterfinals, and the battle for the AFCON championship continues.
