At the 22nd edition of the African Senior Athletics Championship which ended on Sunday in Mauritius, team Nigeria finished third on the final medals table with 5 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze medals.
Chukwuebuka Enekwechi cemented Nigeria’s third position after winning a gold medal on the final day of action in the men’s Shot Put event. He did this by setting a Championship record of 21.20m canceling out his previous record of 21.08m set in Asaba 4 years ago.
Also on the final day of action in Mauritius, Team Nigeria won bronze in 4x400m relays for men and women.
The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, in his remarks praises the performance of the athletes that represented Nigeria. He said that despite the absence of some of her top-rated athletes, Team Nigeria still put in a good performance in the competition by securing the Third position.
