African Community in Surrey and Sussex Thrives at Summer Jam Event

The African community in Surrey and Sussex [ACISS] came together in celebration at the Summer Jam: End of Summer Fun & Entertainment on August 17, 2024 at Court Lodge Fields in Horley. The event was a resounding success, drawing a large crowd and fostering a spirit of unity and joy.

Deputy Mayor Cllr Tom Turner inaugurated the festivities, which featured a vibrant lineup of live music, an array of delicious food and drinks while providing interaction between members and governing authorities. The event was a testament to the strong community bonds within the region, showcasing the diverse cultural tapestry and collective spirit of its attendees. Mrs Nana-Hauwa Adeeyo, Senior Special Assistant to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu graced the event, making a solidarity gesture towards the event and ACISS operations.

One of the highlights of the day was the goodwill gesture from the Surrey, Reigate and Banstead Police Department, which allowed children to interact with security equipment, symbolizing their positive engagement with the community. The event also received support from Horley Leisure Centre, whose contributions helped effect its success.

Community leaders, including Cllr Neha Boghani, Deputy Mayor Tom Turner, and Dr. Gillian Orrow, Director of Growing Health Together, were acknowledged for their support. ACISS expressed gratitude to Horley Town Council and all who participated by fostering continued engagement and insightful provision of job opportunities for members of the community and contributed to the event’s success.
