Tobi Amusan, the world’s best 100-meter hurdler and current record holder, won the 2022 EKOFM Person of the Year award on Thursday in Lagos.
Amusan received 89 more votes than the two runners-up, a police officer named Daniel Amah and a tanker driver named Ejiro Otarigho, who drove a blazing fuel tanker away from a residential neighborhood in Agbarho, Delta State, in order to save the lives of the residents and prevent further injury.
The yearly event, which is being organized by the Current Affairs Directorate of Radio Lagos/EKOFM, is a part of the Directorate’s efforts to recognize and appreciate Nigerians who engage in worthwhile activities for the community, society, and nation.
Olajide Lawal, the general manager of Radio Lagos/EKOFM, urged Amusan to keep up her diligent job.
The athlete will be encouraged by the award to keep turning in outstanding performances in tournaments around the world, according to Lawal, who made this declaration while giving the trophy to Amusan’s manager, Lanre Vigo, in his office.
The station’s general manager stated that the athlete should be proud of being associated with former award winners Bill Clinton, the late Nelson Mandela, Reverend Mother Esther Ajayi, ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, and ex-US President Olusegun Obasanjo while emphasizing that the only thing that comes from hard work is more work.
The hurdler has committed to uphold the nation’s honor in 2023, according to Amusan’s manager Vigo, who also thanked the station’s management for the honor.
Amusan won the women’s 100-meter gold in the 2022 Global Championships, becoming the first-ever Nigerian world champion and setting a new world record (12.12 seconds).
