After only six months at the City Ground, Taiwo Awoniyi, a striker for Nottingham Forest, has responded to suggestions that he struggled in the Premier League.
The Nigerian striker, 25, spent six seasons with Liverpool but did not play for the first team. He is now making a return to England.
In 65 appearances with Union Berlin in the Bundesliga, Awoniyi scored 25 goals. As a result, Forest made a summer move to sign the forward in order to assemble a team capable of competing in the Premier League following promotion from the Championship.
But despite his inconsistent play, the striker managed just five goals in 19 appearances for Forest in all competitions. His injury has forced him to miss work right now.
When responding to a tweet, Twitter user Mavs69 @Mr jb Maverick named three Premier League failures: Awoniyi, Claudio Pizzaro, and Emmanuel Dennis.
He tweeted: “Did you forget or intentionally omitted Kezmam, Claudio Pizzaro, Emmanuel Dennis, Taiwo Awoniyi and the others that came with higher reputations flopped heavily? The EPL is different in terms of pace and space, and you know it, stop being a hypocrite.”
In response to the tweet, Awoniyi attacked @Mr jb Maverick for his lack of comprehension and expertise in football.
“I hope some people can be well informed or educated on what’s football, especially Nigeria (sic),” Awoniyi said on his official Twitter handle.
“I believe it will help, so most people won’t just come here and just put up a tweet anyhow.
“Unfortunately, the well-educated also have sides and favoritism. That’s why will (sic) end up missing d [World] Cup.”
