FC Barcelona Femeni striker Asisat Oshoala and Super Falcons player has been awarded the Pichichi trophy for being the top scorers in the 2021-2022 Spanish Primera Division Women’s League with 20 goals each.
The Pichichi is a prestigious award given by the sports newspaper Marca to the top scorer of the Spanish Primera Division Women’s League each season.
It is named after the Spanish striker Rafael Moreno Aranzadi, known as “Pichichi,” and all previous top scorers are retroactively recognized as Pichichi winners by Marca.
Oshoala played a key role in leading Barcelona to its third consecutive and seventh overall Liga title this season, as the team won all 30 of its games, a first in the league’s history.
In August, the former Rivers Angels player became the first African woman to be nominated for the Ballon d’Or féminin award.
A record five-time winner of the African Women’s Footballer of the Year award, Oshoala holds the record for the most CAF Women’s Footballer of the Year awards won with a total of five and the Pichichi is another accolade to add to her impressive collection.
