Under the Federal Government’s anticipated expenditures included in the 2023 budget, the Presidential Villa intends to spend N14.8bn on items including Internet connection, stationery, and telephone costs, among others.

Internet connection for the Villa was allocated N67.1 million in the budget, while stationery and computer consumables would cost N79 million.

A further breakdown of the budget revealed that N35.9 million was allotted for power charges, N306.2 million for telephone charges, and N6 million and N40.6 million, respectively, for water rates.

N1.6 billion of the Villa’s overall budget would be used for personnel costs.

Newspapers alone consumed N26.4 million of the N35 million budgeted for books and newspapers, while books ate up N8.5 million.

A joint session of the National Assembly received a budget proposal for the 2023 fiscal year from President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.) on Friday.

The budget is almost N750 billion more than the N19.76 trillion originally suggested in the fiscal strategy paper for 2023–2025 and the medium term expenditure framework.

The 2023-2025 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper, which the President earlier delivered to the National Assembly, was passed by the House of Representatives on Thursday before the Federal Government’s budget was announced.

The passage came after the Finance Committee’s report had been discussed.

The House approved a total FGN expenditure of N19.76 trillion, made up of total recurrent (non-debt) spending of N8.53 trillion, personnel costs (MDAs), N827.8 trillion, capital expenditure, N3.96 trillion, special intervention (recurrent), N350 trillion, and special intervention (capital), N7 trillion.
