Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, early this morning won the presidential ticket to be the candidate of the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 presidential elections.
Abubakar, who garnered 371 votes, defeated his nearest rival Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state, who received 237 votes.
Atiku Abubakar, 75, lost to incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 during the last election and this may be his last attempt after five previous attempts to be the President.
Atiku Abubakar was the vice-president between 1999 and 2007 during the two terms of President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Abubakar, in his acceptance speech, said, he will restore unity and also committed to deal decisively with the security situation in this country.
