Africa’s 22-year-old Afrobeat sensation and Grammy-nominated artist, Ayra Starr, is making her Nollywood debut in Prime Video’s original film Christmas In Lagos. This exciting development marks her first foray into acting, as she joins a growing list of musicians expanding their careers into the Nigerian movie industry.

The romantic comedy, directed by the acclaimed Jadesola Osiberu, features Ayra Starr alongside a stellar cast that includes Teniola A. Aladese, Shalom C. Obiago, Rayxia Ojo, Nollywood veteran Shaffy Bello, and singer Adekunle Gold. The story revolves around Fiyin (played by Aladese), a woman recently recovering from a heartbreak, who comes to the realization that her best friend, Elo (Obiago), might be the true love of her life.

In discussing the decision to cast Ayra Starr, Osiberu expressed her admiration for the young star: “For me, Ayra Starr represents what it means to be young, female, and fearless—just being yourself. She was on the list from day one.”

Ayra Starr isn’t the only musician making an appearance in the film. The movie will also feature Wurld and Liya, adding an extra layer of musical flavor to the production. The soundtrack, a key highlight of the film, brings together a mix of Nigerian music legends, including Sunny Ade, Flavour, and D’banj, setting the stage for an immersive cultural experience.
