Pablo Páez Gavira, aka “Gavi,” and FC Barcelona have reached an agreement to extend his contract through June 30, 2026.
The buyout clause for the young Spanish player’s new contract, according to the La Liga club, is set at 1 billion euros.
According to a statement on the club website, the celebration for Gavi’s new contract extension will take place at Spotify Camp Nou on Thursday, September 15, at 6 p.m. CEST.
On August 5, 2004, Gavi was born in the city of Los Palacios Villafranca, which is close to Seville. He joined Real Betis’ development program as a teenager and played for the verdiblancos for two seasons at the Luis del Sol training facility, which is a short distance from the Benito Villamarn stadium.
The catastrophic transfer of Gavi to FC Barcelona for the 2015–16 campaign followed. He first played for the blaugranes at the U12 level before quickly advancing through the youth divisions to make the U19 team.
He made his debut for Barça B on February 21, 2021, in a 6-0 victory over Hospitalet, replacing Nico González after making an immediate impression.
One more time that year, the midfielder played for the B team against Espanyol in the neighborhood derby.
The third-youngest goal scorer for the Club ever, Gavi now plays regularly for the first team and scored his first goal for the blaugranes in a 3-2 victory over Elche in December 2021.
He’s only 18 years old, but he’s already an important part of Luis Enrique’s entire Spain national team.
