In Ajax’s recent 4-2 victory at Volenda, Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey was thrilled to score his first Eredivisie goal for Ajax.
Following four games without a victory, which included defeats to Liverpool, AZ Alkmaar, and Napoli, Ajax found success on Saturday.
As the Dutch juggernauts destroyed Volendam 4-2 away from home, Bassey scored his first goal for Ajax since signing from Glasgow Rangers in the summer.
The victory came a few days after Ajax lost a Champions League match at home to Napoli in an embarrassing 6-1 loss.
Bassey commented on the crushing Champions League loss to Napoli on his YouTube channel: “How do you think it would be after that (Napoli loss)? Of course, it was not nice. Nobody wants to be on the receiving end of it.
“But the most important thing for us is to try to wipe it clear and go because we do have quality in our team.
“We showed it a lot more near the beginning of the season, the quality we have and how we can play. It’s just about getting back to that level.” Bassey will be hoping Ajax get the chance to redeem their reputation when they play Napoli at the Diego Maradona Stadium in the reverse fixture on Wednesday.
