Jude Bellingham, a young midfielder for Dortmund, was recognised as the best player in the Bundesliga on Monday. Two days prior, his squad suffered the pain of losing the German championship to Bayern Munich, their fiercest rival, in the previous game.
After a thrilling 2-2 tie with Mainz, Dortmund gained a point for their comeback effort.A “Team of the Season” survey revealed that the 19-year-old England international received the most votes. Because of a late knee injury, he was unable to play in the final game of the campaign.
Bellingham started in 30 of the 34 games in which his squad participated. The most of any player at the club, he logged 2,693 minutes in league play while also tallying eight goals and four assists.
Bellingham was quoted on Bundesliga site saying, “Every year or half year that I’ve played at the club, my responsibility in the team has increased.”
“I came to the club as a talented lad, but I have added elements to my game that have taken it to the next level.”
“I have to continue to be everywhere on the pitch and try my best to contribute going forwards and backwards and try and control games, try to dominate the midfield,” he said.
“I want my teammates to see that I’m always doing everything I can to make sure we win. If we lose a game, I’m the worst person.”
The midfielder, who left English Championship team Birmingham City at the age of 17 to join Dortmund for 29 million euros ($32 million), was a key member of England’s midfield during the 2014 World Cup.
Bellingham has received a lot of attention over potential summer transfers to Real Madrid or Manchester City.
Bellingham became the league’s youngest match captain since data collection began in 1995 when he led his team out at Cologne in October.
Bellingham was referred to as “the oldest 19-year-old in the world” by his coach, Edin Terzic.
Bellingham also reportedly travelled more (322 km) than any of his teammates during the course of the season, according to Bundesliga records, and set a league record by winning 482 “duels.”
