Karim Benzema, the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner and football player for France, has announced his retirement from international competition.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup final, which took place Sunday night at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar with France and Argentina as the winners, was just over 24 hours ago.
On Monday in the afternoon, Benzema posted on Twitter, “I made the effort and the mistakes it took to be where I am today and I’m proud of it! I have written my story and ours is ending.”
After suffering an injury on the eve of the competition, Benzema was sent home, but there was some talk that he might play in a friendly for Real Madrid and then come back for the final against France.
But, as reported by Daily Mail, he turned down the chance to return to Qatar because of a dispute with manager Didier Deschamps.
In relation to his future with the team, Deschamps already stated that he intends to speak with the French Football Federation in the coming year.
With one victory and one defeat, he has now guided France to two World Cup finals.
On the other hand, the 2022 Ballon d’Or for Player of the Year went to Benzema.
In the 2021/22 season, when Real Madrid won both of these titles, Benzema led all scorers in both the UEFA Champions League and La Liga of Spain.
