The Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards has renamed one of its 2022 award categories after the late Nigerian Gospel and Soul singer, Sammie Okposo.

Seun Oloketuyi, the founder of the awards event, said the gesture was to celebrate his heroics in the gospel music landscape.

“We feel the need to honour him in some way. This was what inspired us to rename the Best Soundtrack category after him. His loss will be felt by all and this is just a way to immortalize him,” Seun said.

Meanwhile, Sammie is set to be buried on the 15th of December, 2022.

According to the flyer of his burial arrangement, a night of tributes will be held on December 13 at the La Madison Place, Oniru in Lagos state.

This would be followed by a service of songs on December 14 at the House on the Rock Cathedral in Lekki.

The remains of the singer would thereafter be laid to rest at a private ceremony on December 15.

Okposo passed away on November 25. He was said to have slumped at his residence in Lagos state, but his manager said he died in his sleep.
