Burna Boy Receives Honorary Day in Boston

Renowned Nigerian artist Burna Boy has achieved a significant milestone by having a day named after him in the United States.

Since making his mark on the international music scene, Burna Boy has been a key figure in promoting African music globally, showcasing his distinctive genre fusion and captivating stage presence.In a noteworthy accomplishment, the City of Boston has officially designated the second day of March as Burna Boy Day.

The inaugural celebration is set to take place on Saturday, March 2nd, 2024. The announcement was made through a press release issued by Councilor Ruthzee Louijeune, recognizing Burna Boy’s outstanding contributions to advancing African culture and ideals through his music.

The press release also emphasized Burna Boy’s advocacy work, sparking conversations about social justice, representation, and equality.

This recognition by the City of Boston acknowledges the significant contributions of Nigerians, who constitute the largest African immigrant community in the United States and Massachusetts, to enriching the nation’s cultural diversity.

Burna Boy now joins the ranks of fellow Nigerian musicians Wizkid and Davido, who have also been honoured with their own official days in the United States.
