The African Community in Surrey and Sussex held a “Black Book Club Launch” on October 12, 2022, at Horley Library Unit 1, 56-57, Rusell Square, Victoria Road, Horley, RH6 7QH, in observance of Black History Month 2022.
The successful event was the first of its kind and came in first place among the events planned to honor Black History Month this year. Notably, the event is slated to take place from October 12 until October 29, 2022.
Authors and celebrities who recited texts from renowned authors’ works were present at the occasion.
Among the authors present were Hibo Wardere, who gave a reading from her book “Cut,” Princess Ronke Ademiluyi, who gave a reading from “Unspoken”- A Chronicle of Women Kings, Dr. Oduntan Gbenga from the University of Kent spoke about “International Law and Boundary Disputes in Africa”, Peter Olorunisomo discussed “A snake in the King’s palace”, Pastor Irene Ferry discussed the concept of the “World within Worlds” and Cllr Ade Aminu- “Nigerian on British Politicians in UK.”
The audience benefited much from the prolific authors’ generous time and knowledge, which made for such an enlightening and entertaining event. Attendees had the opportunity to socialize with people from other walks of life at the event as well.
