Serunjogi, the co-founder, and CEO of the prominent African fintech company Chipper Cash, has been appointed to the President’s Advisory Council on African Diaspora Engagement. This key position was announced by President Joe Biden, underlining a broader commitment to strengthening communication between American leaders and the African Diaspora.

Ham Serunjogi is among the 12 founding members of this Council, established in line with the pledge made by Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2022 US-Africa Leaders Summit. The Council is envisioned to bridge communication gaps and foster stronger connections between the United States and the African Diaspora, consisting of both African Americans and African immigrants.

The African Diaspora in the United States, comprising descendants of enslaved Africans and African immigrants, has historically advocated for the prosperity of the African continent and its people. This vibrant community has played a pivotal role in fortifying the special bond between the United States and Africa.

The White House, in a statement, outlined the selection criteria for the Council’s members, indicating the diverse representation sought from African American communities across the United States and African immigrant communities spanning the continent and the Caribbean. The Council encompasses individuals distinguished in various fields, including government, sports, creative industries, business, academia, social work, and faith-based activities. The appointed members will offer valuable insights to reinforce cultural, social, political, and economic ties between the U.S. and Africa, promoting trade, investment, and educational exchanges.

Expressing his gratitude and enthusiasm for the appointment, Ham Serunjogi, via a post on his social media handle, expressed his deep honor to serve on the Inaugural President’s Advisory Council on African Diaspora Engagement. He looks forward to advising President Biden on strengthening relations between Africa and the United States, advancing trade and investment, and promoting educational exchanges, among other vital issues.

Serving in the Biden-Harris administration as a representative of the African Diaspora, Serunjogi sees this as a unique opportunity to give back and strengthen ties between the United States and African communities. He is eager to collaborate closely with President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Secretary Blinken, viewing this responsibility as an honor he will cherish forever.

In addition to Ham Serunjogi, other notable members of the Council include Silvester Scott Beaman (Chair), Mimi E. Alemayehou, Rosalind Brewer, Viola Davis, Helene D. Gayle, Patrick Hubert Gaspard, C.D. Glin, Osagie Imasogie, Almaz Negash, Chinenye Joy Ogwumike, and Kevin Young. Their collective expertise and dedication are expected to significantly contribute to the objectives of the Council, reinforcing the bonds between the United States and the African Diaspora, both within the U.S. and in Africa.
