Africa is still mainly underdeveloped and lacks the investment needed to realise its full potential, according to Mr. Cuthbert Ncube, president of the African Tourism Board (ATB), who was speaking over the weekend at a tourist conference held in Bukoba town on the beaches of Lake Victoria, Bukoba, Western Tanzania.

Speaking as the keynote speaker at the East Africa Business Investment and Tourism Expo Conference in Tanzania, Mr. Ncube asserted that it is the duty of ATB to advance travel and tourism across the continent.

According to Ncube, “As the African Tourism Board, we urge all stakeholders in the tourism industry, including governments, private investors, and the communities that live around the Lake Victoria Basin, to work together to develop and promote tourism in this region.

“Together, we can create a sustainable tourism industry that benefits both the communities in the Lake Victoria Basin and the tourists who visit this beautiful region.

He added, “I am sure we can all agree that Africa is a continent endowed with an array of natural wonders that are unmatched anywhere else in the world.”

He further revealed that one of the key causes of this is that the African tourism sector is still mainly underdeveloped and does not have the necessary funding to reach its full potential.

“This region is one of the most beautiful and diverse areas in Africa, yet it has been largely ignored by the tourism industry. The Lake Victoria Basin is an area that encompasses Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, and it is home to over 35 million people.”

Some of the most perfect natural sceneries may be found anyplace in the world can be found in the Lake Victoria Basin. The Serengeti Plains in Tanzania and the Murchison Falls in Uganda are just two of the several natural wonders in this area that might draw millions of tourists annually.

These undiscovered treasures have remained mainly unnoticed due to the lack of investment in the tourism sector in this area.

“As the African Tourism Board, it is our responsibility to promote and develop tourism in Africa. This is why we are here’, said the President.
