The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Sunday that Egypt has been officially certified as malaria-free, signifying the elimination of a disease that has plagued the country since ancient times. This achievement marks a major milestone in public health for Egypt.
To receive this certification, countries must demonstrate that indigenous transmission of malaria by Anopheles mosquitoes has been interrupted for at least three consecutive years. Egypt successfully met this criterion, showcasing its effective control and eradication efforts.
Egypt joins a select group of 44 countries and one territory that have been granted malaria-free status by the WHO, further emphasizing global progress in the fight against the disease.
