Federal Government of Nigeria Declares October 1st Public Holiday

The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, October 1st, as a public holiday in celebration of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day.

Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, made the announcement on behalf of the government, expressing congratulations to Nigerians both at home and abroad. In a statement by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Tunji-Ojo praised the “patient and hardworking Nigerian men and women,” emphasizing that “their sacrifices will not be in vain.”

Reflecting on the theme for the anniversary, the Minister urged Nigerians to honor the “labour of our heroes past” and remain inspired for the challenges ahead, stressing that “a Nigeria of our dream can only be built when we unite.”

Tunji-Ojo concluded by wishing all Nigerians a Happy Independence Day, encouraging continued dedication to nation-building.
