Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, led a one-day parley with heads of parastatals and government-owned companies on transforming these entities into agile organizations for greater efficiency.
The event, themed “Transforming Parastatals/Government-Owned Companies into Agile Organizations for Greater Efficiency,” aimed to align the agencies with the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Developmental Agenda of the administration.
During his discussion with the State’s heads of parastatals and agencies, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the crucial role of these agencies in driving innovation and bolstering government revenue. He called for the adoption of innovative approaches to increase revenue, stressing the importance of accountability and transparency in operations. The Governor also highlighted the need for collaboration and partnerships across all sectors for sustainable development.
“We must strive to create an enabling environment that fosters innovation, entrepreneurship, and business growth. Through targeted policies and initiatives, we can position our state as a prime destination for investment, unlocking new opportunities for prosperity and development,” Governor Sanwo-Olu stated.
He further charged them on the importance of partnership among the agencies, saying, “collaboration is the cornerstone of progress, and it is essential that we forge strong partnerships across all sectors. By leveraging our collective expertise and resources, we can synergize efforts toward achieving our common goal of sustainable development. The success of our endeavors hinges upon the seamless coordination and cooperation of all relevant stakeholders”.
The Governor also emphasised the need for government-owned companies to understand the responsibilities in an investment-driven economy that attracts global investors. He said, “we must strive to create an enabling environment that fosters innovation, entrepreneurship, and business growth. In his remarks, the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, commended the theme of the parley, highlighting its importance in driving growth and development across various sectors. He described the event as a rare opportunity for heads of parastatals and government agencies to interact with the Governor and urged participants to make the most of the opportunity.
Mr. Agoro also called for enhanced partnership and identified areas where additional support from the Governor could further amplify the agencies’ collective impact. These areas included overlapping mandates, the need to update and review some laws for clarity of functions, inadequate resources, and the constitution of governing boards.
The parley provided a platform for heads of agencies to engage with the Governor on salient issues geared towards improving operations for the betterment of Lagos State. Participants expressed optimism about the outcomes of the parley and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the collective aspirations of the state.
