The Unity Group (TUG) has congratulated former President Goodluck Jonathan on joining the European Corporate Council on Africa and the Middle East (ECAM) international advisory board.
Jonathan was the first sub-Saharan African leader to serve on the ECAM board, an Italian-led non-profit that promotes and develops relations between Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the North Africa region.
TUG said in a statement Wednesday that Jonathan’s appointment shows his rising profile as an international statesman and rare personality of focus.
Chief Johnny Metchie, President-General of Umueri General Assembly, and veteran journalist and author Bonaventure Phillips Melah signed the statement.
TUG commended President Muhammadu Buhari (Retd.) for extending presidential and diplomatic protocols to Jonathan to help him in his international assignments.
The statement said, “We are pleased to congratulate you on your appointment to the European Corporate Council on Africa and the Middle East’s international advisory board.
“This congratulatory letter is a token of our appreciation to you, on behalf of millions of our members across Nigeria, for standing up for Nigeria and positively impacting our country’s global perspective as a country with competent human resources needed to make the world a better place.
“This is because you are the Chairperson of the International Summit Council for Peace, ECOWAS Special Envoy on Mali, Chairman of the ECOWAS Council for the Wise, Chairman of the West Africa Elders Forum, and United Nations Crisis Manager for Africa, among other international positions.
