I know my goals will come with or without penalties- Osimhen

Victor Osimhen, a striker for the Super Eagles, has vowed that whether or not he takes penalties, he will continue to score frequently for Napoli.

At the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Wednesday, the 24-year-old scored twice as Napoli easily defeated German team Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 to clinch the Europa League title.

When Napoli was given a penalty in the second half, Osimhen had the chance to score his first-ever hat-trick in the Champions League but instead gave the chance to Poland international Piotr Zielinski. Osimhen became the first Napoli player to score in both halves of a European Cup/Champions League knockout match.

The third Partenopei goal of the evening was neatly slid in by Zielinski.

After the match, Osimhen, who won Man of the Match, admitted he had no difficulty letting his friend score from the penalty spot.

“Zielinski asked if he could take the penalty and I said no problem. It does not matter who scores as long as the team achieves success,” he told reporters.

“It’s the most important thing. I know my goals will come with or without penalties.”

After advancing to the Champions League quarterfinals for the first time with a convincing victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, Osimhen also thinks Napoli has a decent opportunity to win the tournament overall.

Osimhen feels Napoli, the lopsided Serie A leaders, are capable of bringing European triumph thanks to their unequalled total of 26 goals in the Champions League this season.

Speaking with BT Sport Osimhen said, “I think anything is possible and we have the squad to achieve this dream.”

“We want to go step by step and we will see what happens at the end of the season. It feels good to make history with this win. It was a huge win. Congratulations to the team on a good performance from the whole squad.”

The striker was asked if he had a preference for Napoli’s opponents in the quarterfinals, and he responded: “We are a top club, and it would be good to have a draw with another top club.

“It’s going to be a huge match; it’s going to be great. We are ready for it, and we are ready for any big team we might have to play.”
