Although Wilfred Ndidi reportedly tore his hamstring in grade one while playing for the Super Eagles in Constantine, his club Leicester City anticipates his return to action against Nottingham Forest on Monday.
After suffering the injury in practice last week, Ndidi withdrew from the Nigerian team and went back to Leicester City for medical care.
After examination, it was discovered that the midfielder had only sustained a minor injury and would likely recover in a week.
Nigerian manager Jose Peseiro said that Ndidi had complained of a hamstring injury during City’s 6-2 loss to Tottenham prior to the break, and that City’s fitness personnel had informed the Eagles of this. It was felt that it would be prudent not to risk Ndidi after he participated in light training with his nation.
Peseiro said: “He came, he trained without intensity, a small training (session). He feels something in his hamstring, and I think it’s best not to use (him). It’s not dangerous but I’m not going to use one player in a friendly match if he can get more injured. He returned to Leicester for recovery.”
This Premier League season, Ndidi has started all but one of City’s games. Before switching back to midfield for Spurs’ defeat, he played as center defense twice against Manchester United and Brighton.
Due to the team’s poor record this season—one point from seven games—Brendan Rodgers is under intense criticism at the King Power Stadium.
The Foxes are currently in last place in the Premier League following this run of six losses in a row.
