Anthony Joshua, a two-time heavyweight champion, has proposed that the sport’s regulations be altered to allow for the use of live scorecards during fights.
Oleksandr Usyk, the heavyweight champion of Ukraine, has defeated the 32-year-old in both of their most recent meetings.
According to Joshua, live scorecards may illustrate how fights are progressing as they are happening, letting fighters know how many rounds are left to win or if they need to score a knockdown.
If Joshua had known with certainty that he was trailing Usyk in the scorecards, it might have motivated him to pursue a knockout more aggressively in the fight’s closing moments.
Until the fight winner is declared, the judges’ scorecards in boxing are currently unknown.
Joshua, however, has recently asserted that a more competitive atmosphere would result from knowing the results round by round.
He wrote on Instagram, “In so many sports you know who’s winning as the game is progressing.
“In a sense it creates a very competitive environment.”
In order to make the results of a fight evident as the rounds move forward, Joshua requested for opinions on the introduction of transparent scorecards.
He went on, “Should boxing introduce live (visible) scorecards so you know, what you need to know, in order to win.”
