Anthony Joshua, a former heavyweight champion and two-time winner, is rumored to have delayed his comeback to the ring until early 2023 rather than this December as was first stated.
The former WBA, WBO, IBO, and IBF heavyweight champion was slated to make a comeback on December 17 in London; potential opponents included Otto Wallin and Chris Arreola.
The British-Nigerian lost to Oleksandr Usyk twice in August, failing to win back the IBF, WBO, and WBA championships he had lost to the Ukrainian in London the year before.
Joshua was keen to make a comeback before the year was up, and his promoter Eddie Hearn had set the Olympian up against one of the top 15 boxers in the world.
However, Tyson Fury’s offer to give his adversary a crack at his WBC heavyweight title put a stop to those preparations. Joshua agreed to Fury’s 3 December date and accepted a 60-40 split of the first purse in Fury’s favor.
