Kenya has unveiled two major initiatives to strengthen its tourism sector: a Digital Nomad Work Permit and a visa-free travel policy. Announced by President William Ruto at the 2024 Magical Kenya Travel Expo, these measures aim to attract remote workers and tourists to the country.

The Digital Nomad Work Permit will allow global remote workers to live and work in Kenya, offering them the chance to experience its vibrant culture and scenic landscapes. This initiative is part of Kenya’s goal to attract 5 million tourists annually by 2027. In 2023, the country welcomed over 2 million visitors, generating Ksh 352 billion from tourism.

Kenya has also introduced a visa-free travel policy for selected countries, making it easier for tourists and business travelers to visit. “We are committed to making Kenya a top destination for travelers worldwide,” President Ruto said.

In addition, a Transit and Long Connection Travelers Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) will enable passengers with long layovers at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to explore the country instead of waiting at the airport.

Kenya’s tourism sector is a key driver of the economy, contributing to job creation and infrastructure development.
