Seyi Akinwunmi, the first vice president of the Nigeria Football Federation, has been tasked by Gbenga Omotoso, the commissioner for information and strategy for the Lagos State, to advance football in the state and nationally.
Following the Lagos State government’s endorsement of Akinwunmi’s presidential campaign, Omotoso made his declaration.
Omotosho praised the administrator for his grassroots football development program in the state while speaking at the weekend during Akinwunmi’s official declaration of intent to run for president of the federation in the upcoming election on September 30. Akinwunmi also serves as the chairman of the Lagos State FA.
The event was held in Alausa, Lagos, at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Center.
“The support for Akinwunmi is not just for Lagos residents, but it is for all lovers of football all over Nigeria,” Omotoso said.
“Nigerians have great passion for football and it must be administered by people of integrity, people who can see into the future.
“We want improvement in our football, so everyone, not just Lagos residents, are in full support of Akinwunmi because of his credentials.
“Some people have described Akinwunmi’s credentials as intimidating, but I will just say that it is putting a round peg in a round hole.”
