Leeds United are reportedly leading the race to sign Nigerian defender Ola Aina from Torino in the January transfer window. The Premier League side is said to be keen on adding the versatile defender to their ranks as they look to strengthen their squad.
Aina’s current contract with Torino expires in June, and despite efforts to extend the player’s contract, both parties have been unable to reach an agreement. As a result, the Italian club is now open to cashing in on the wing-back and are reportedly seeking a transfer fee of €8 million for the 26-year-old.
The defender joined Torino in 2018 from Chelsea on a loan deal before the Italians made the move permanent the following season. He has since become an integral part of manager Ivan Jurić’s side, featuring in 10 Serie A games this season and scoring one goal. With his contract set to expire in 2023, Torino is looking to recoup some transfer fee before they risk losing the player for free.
According to Reports, Leeds are willing to meet the demands of Torino and pay the €8 million transfer fee, which is reportedly £2 million less than what Torino paid Chelsea for the wing-back.
Aina has also garnered interest from other clubs in England, but Leeds United is said to be in the lead for his signature.
The defender is known for bringing his fashionable hair and lightness in interpreting the role of a footballer to Turin, as well as being a fan of good music, which has been described as a London style.
