Angela Mensah-Poku’s impressive journey in telecommunications stands as a testament to resilience, adaptability, and transformative leadership. With over two decades of dedication to the telecom industry, Angela has risen through ranks, driven by her passion for technology and her commitment to empowering others — especially women in STEM.
Angela’s path began with a simple yet profound goal: to work in an environment that allowed her to thrive among people and continuous learning. Her entry into the industry was marked by a graduate interview at British Telecom (BT) in the UK, where she first encountered the dynamic world of telecommunications. Through roles in project management, sales, and business operations, Angela developed a deep appreciation for technology’s power to connect and empower.
Her career took a pivotal turn when Vodafone acquired Ghana Telecom, bringing Angela to Ghana as the Chief of Staff to the CEO. This role placed her alongside senior executives, offering her firsthand experience in high-stakes decision-making. It also gave her a platform to hone her leadership skills, ultimately guiding her back to her first love—sales. There, she reinvigorated teams, empowering them with her vision and drive.
Angela’s career took an unexpected twist when she was asked to lead Vodafone Ghana’s Fixed Services Team, comprising over 300 engineers, despite her non-engineering background. Embracing the challenge, Angela’s ability to inspire her team — despite initial perceptions around her British accent and corporate image — proved to be one of her strengths. Her leadership transcended technical know-how, creating an inclusive and motivated team culture.
Throughout her career at Vodafone Ghana, Angela held numerous key positions, including Head of Enterprise, Director for Vodafone Business Solutions, and eventually, Managing Director of Wholesale and Enterprise Business. Each role allowed her to work with global and regional teams, expanding her influence and deepening her understanding of business dynamics across West Africa.
Her most recent role as Director of Digital Transformation and Commercial Operations signaled a strategic shift toward digital integration. Angela’s efforts in this capacity helped shape Vodafone’s innovative approach, bringing digital solutions to the forefront while streamlining operations to meet the demands of an increasingly connected world.
Outside of her corporate achievements, Angela is an advocate for women in STEM. She is a champion for the WiSTEM Programme at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and provides personal mentorship to aspiring female technologists, encouraging them to push boundaries and embrace the world of technology.
Angela’s contributions have not gone unnoticed. She received special recognition at the ninth Ghana Information Technology and Telecoms Awards (GITTA) in 2019 for her work in the Enterprise and Small Business sector and was awarded Best Digital Enabler at the tenth GITTA in 2020. Her professional achievements are underpinned by her continuous pursuit of education, holding an MSc in Information Systems, a BSc in Politics, and completing executive leadership programs at both London Business School and the British Chartered Institute of IT.
Today, Angela serves as the Chief Enterprise Business Officer at MTN Ghana, where her expertise continues to impact the industry. Angela Mensah-Poku’s journey is an inspiring example of how dedication, adaptability, and vision can break barriers, opening doors for women to lead in technology and beyond.
