Josh Maja of Girondins Bordeaux has been selected as the French Ligue 2 Player of the Month for October.

The Nigerian won the award ahead of Julien Maggiotti of Stade Lavallois and Gautier Lloris of Le Havre.

Yoann Gourcuff won the Ligue 2 Player of the Month honor in April 2009, making him the first player from Bordeaux to do so in 13 years.

Maja, who has one Super Eagles cap, received the prestigious accolade for his great achievements for Bordeaux, where in 15 league matches he has seven goals and three assists.

He assisted Bordeaux in winning three and drawing one of the four games it played in October by scoring two of those goals in victories against Laval (2-1) and Metz (2-0) at home.

The Marines and Whites are on track to return to Ligue 1 next season despite Bordeaux being demoted from the French top-flight last year.

With 28 points after 15 games, they are four points behind league-leading Le Havre, who have 32 points after the same number of games. They are in second place in Ligue 2 in France.
